ONE SENTENCE

Inspired by a real life event, this is a story about a Father who tries in vain to preserve the innocence of his Son as they spend their final moments together in a prisoner of war camp in An Najaf, Iraq during the Iraq war of 2003.

ONE PARAGRAPH

What would you do if you are spending your final moments with your child in a prisoner of war camp and are to be led off for interrogation? How could you conceal the brutality of war from your child? What can you do to preserve your child's innocence? This is the dilemma that faces a Father as he is being held captive with his seven year old Son in a prisoner of war camp. Encouraging his Son to find a Fish (a metaphor for hope), the Father plays a game with his Son to distract him from what surrounds him, realising that the games will eventually end as reality sets in. Before it does, the Father tries to impart one final life lesson to his Son. Inspired by the World Press Photo of the Year 2003 taken by the multi Pulitzer Prize winner photographer Jean-Marc Bouju of a Father (who is hooded) comforting his 4 year old Son in a prisoner of war camp in An Najaf, Iraq during the Iraq war of 2003. This is a surrealist interpretation of what transpired between that Father and his Son while being held captive in a prisoner of war camp. It is an allegory of our world at this point in time.
